Thiago Braz wraps up the competitive season with his best performance of 2020

In a turbulent year for the sports world due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Thiago Braz continued to adapt, train, and prepare for the 2020 season’s competitions. This Sunday (the 13th), at the Diamond League meet in Berlin, Germany, the athlete saw the results of his efforts when he set his best time of the year.

In the last major competition of the current season, Thiago Braz made it to the podium at the Berlin meet after jumping 5.82 meters, his best mark of the season. The athlete’s improvement was considerable compared to the 5.72 m he jumped in his previous competition, which took place at the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League.

In Germany, Thiago Braz took the bronze medal, tied with the runner-up, Piotr Lisek of Poland, who also jumped 5.82 meters. The gold medal went to Armand Duplantis of Sweden, who jumped 5.91 meters.

“The 2020 season was tough for everyone,” said Thiago Braz. “We’ve been adapting to the competitions and changing our jump. We’ve increased it to 20 strides; before, I used 18. Today at the Diamond League in Berlin, we were able to better adjust to this new stride pattern, allowing us to compete more effectively. It was my best result of the 2020 season.”

“Happy with his victory in the tournament and with the long-term work he has done with his coach, Vitaly Petrov, Thiago will now return to Brazil, but with no time to rest, as he is already setting his sights on excelling even more at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.”

“My coach and I are happy to have wrapped up this difficult season, given the challenging situation the world is currently facing. We’ll keep our faith, hope, and determination alive for the 2021 Olympics,” concludes Thiago Braz.
