Neymar Jr. was the most-mentioned athlete in the world on Twitter in 2019
Neymar Jr. was the most-mentioned (male) athlete in the world on Twitter in 2019. The social media platform itself announced this on December 9.
The data was collected between January 1 and November 15, counting the number of unique users who mentioned each athlete’s name using the @ symbol or simply by using their names and related keywords.
According to Twitter, the methodology used went beyond the overall volume of tweets. “We’re ranking based on the number of people tweeting about each topic. We wanted to know what got more people talking, not just what was the loudest,” wrote Elaine Filadelfo, senior research manager.
