Neymar Jr. shows off his new cleats and predicts: “lots of goals for us”; take a look behind the scenes

Neymar Jr. is excited for his debut with the Brazilian national team in the world’s biggest international soccer tournament, which kicks off this Thursday (24) for Brazil. For the tournament, he’ll be wearing a special pair of cleats called “Dream Chaser,” recently launched by PUMA in collaboration with the French artist Percy Mad.

During the campaign shoot in September of this year in France, Neymar Jr. joked as he put on the pair of cleats for the first time: “There are going to be a lot of goals! A lot of goals for us in the World Cup,” said the athlete, predicting a strong performance in Qatar.

The star player’s hope, of course, is to score goals and provide assists with the new model, helping the team in its quest to bring home another World Cup title for Brazil. The “dream hunter” concept is inspired by a true journey through time, tracing the Brazilian star’s own career.

“"We have something very special in store for Neymar Jr. for the World Cup—he’ll have a special pair of cleats that only he will wear, inspired by his dream of winning the world’s biggest international tournament and by his ‘dreamcatcher’ tattoo.", said Clement Lacour, a marketing representative for Puma.

The PUMA promotional video released on November 17 to showcase the soccer cleat features Neymar Jr. walking among panels featuring illustrations of his soccer career. The illustrations were created by artist Percy Mad. Percy created custom drawings, mainly focused on sports and soccer, and shared more details about his work, which uses black, white, and gray colored pencils, as well as variations of those colors.

“The idea behind this concept is to choose illustrations that depict Neymar’s career in Brazil, from his early days—when he was very young and still playing indoor soccer—through the injury he suffered at the 2014 World Cup, to his celebrations, and now with the World Cup approaching. We also used the hunter tattoo he has—which symbolizes chasing his dreams—to truly see his dreams through to the end.”," the artist explains.

Percy Mad met Neymar Jr. in person during the filming of content for the campaign and said it was an honor to work with him. “It’s important to me because Neymar is a great player, and this is the first time I’ve done such a big project centered on a player—especially since he’s Brazilian, which is where the soccer I want to talk about comes from, so it’s an honor for me to have been able to work with the brand, and yes, it’s fantastic—it’s simply incredible,” he added.
