Ligue 1 viewership in Brazil rises following Neymar Jr.'s arrival
PSG continues to reap the benefits of signing Neymar Jr. to the team. Since the star player’s arrival, viewership of French League broadcasts has been growing, gaining more traction among Brazilian broadcasters, who previously favored other European leagues.
Since Njr joined the team, ESPN and Sportv have seen their viewership skyrocket with Ligue 1. During the star player’s debut with PSG, Sportv took the lead (with 2.8 million viewers), and ESPN, which also broadcast the match against Guingamp, gained significant attention.
During Neymar Jr.’s Champions League debut with PSG, Esporte Interativo’s viewership was five times higher. Compared to the viewership the star player drew when he played for Barcelona, Esporte Interativo saw a 30% increase with the match against Celtic.
Neymar Jr. has also changed the broadcast schedule. With the No. 10 on the field, broadcasters will air all 38 of PSG’s matches in the current French League season. As for Band, which was scheduled to air Barcelona vs. Olympiakos this Wednesday (the 18th), it will now air Anderlecht vs. PSG, due to the viewership generated by the player.
