The third edition of Neymar Jr’s Five comes to a close, with Brazil and Mexico emerging as the big winners
The grand finale of the third edition of Neymar Jr.’s Five, an event organized by Red Bull, took place this Saturday (21) at the Neymar Jr. Project Institute. The venue was packed: about 800 children served by the project watched from the stands, as did all the athletes who participated in the event. Neymar Jr. was also there and watched the matches, accompanied by his family and friends.
The round of 16 began in the morning, and more than 40 games were played by early afternoon at the INJR field. Naturally, several teams advanced and were eliminated throughout the day, leading up to the decisive final matches: Brazil and Italy in the women’s division, and Argentina and Mexico in the men’s division.
The Brazilian women of Team Resenha 013 made history by becoming the first champions in the women's division of the event. Among the men's teams, the overall champion was Deportivo Mago, a team from Mexico.
To cap off the competition in style, both had the opportunity to play against Neymar Jr. For the game against Mexico, he took the field with his “buddies”: João Celso, Jô, Gil, Gustavo, Leo Venditto, and Pedro. Charles Martins and John Lenon Rocha, who won the chance to play alongside Neymar Jr. at the INJR Charity Auction, were also part of the team.
In the match against the women's team, Neymar Jr. played alongside Andressa Alves, Aline Caladrini, Erika Cristiano, and Raquel Benetti.
INJR Vice President Neymar da Silva Santos said that holding the third edition of the event is a cause for celebration. “We know this is becoming a huge success! For us, this gathering is a great honor. Today we have 59 countries here in this final. One new development is that women are also participating with us, competing in their own final,” he said.
Neymar Jr. also expressed his delight at the success of the grand final: “I’m so happy to be here once again, hosting Neymar Jr.’s Five here at the Institute for another day, with more and more countries participating.”
